Stephanie McDonough's 1-year-old Bernese Mountain dog suffered two broken bones in his front leg after he was hit by an SUV on Route 7 in Pittsfield on Thursday afternoon, May 4.

The SUV was going about 40-45 mph and the impact resulted in him rolling about four times before he landed back in the driveway of McDonough's house. While, the driver did not stop to help the injured pup, McDonough said a woman and young girl pulled over to help Bo.

"I then rushed him to the vet where he had X-rays and a full exam. It was confirmed that he had a broken leg in two different places," she wrote on a GoFundMe campaign

"He needs surgery ASAP [and] it’s estimated to cost us about 8,000 dollars," McDonough continued. "We just don’t have that kind of money right now so we are asking for your help."

Since his local veterinarian does not perform the kind of surgery he needs, Bo is now waiting for his surgery in Deerfield, which is about an hour-and-a-half away from his family.

Therefore, McDonough is trying to raise enough money to cover his medical bills and bring him back to his "very sad" family, including his sister Bailey.

"Bo just turned 1 yesterday and is the sweetest, happiest puppy," McDonough said. "We are so heartbroken that this happened to him."

McDonough did file a police report with Pittsfield Police but the department has yet to confirm the incident with Daily Voice. People interested in donating to the GoFundMe can click here.
